Hi, I’m Zo — founder of The Zook Lab — and that little sidekick next to me is my son, Master OK.
The Zook Lab was born over a game of Yahtzee (because obviously). Master OK and I had scribbled our initials — ZO and OK — on the score pad, and when we looked down, it read “Zook.” We liked the word and I thought it sounded like a cool brand name...and just like that, it was. I played around with the word, came up with 'The Zook Lab', and registered the domain and social handles that same night. I had no business plan, no product — just a name that felt too good to ignore and a gut feeling it would be something one day.
Meanwhile, amongst my family and friends, I am officially that friend - the one flipping your skincare bottle over, reading the ingredients list, and raising an eyebrow. The one ranting about “fragrance,” calling BS on “clean” claims, and telling anyone who’d listen about the importance of plant-based, toxic-free, cruelty-free home and beauty products. Ask my friends - I'm always going on about it.
I’ve forever been obsessed with ingredients — in everything. And after years of boring (or enlightening?) my family and friends with label breakdowns, I realised: maybe this could help more than just my group chat. That's when I realised that this obsession of mine might actually be the perfect thing for The Zook Lab.
So, now I'm turning The Zook Lab into the place for no-crap education, ingredient decoding, and honest, smart conversation about what we put on our skin, and into our bodies.
